Calendar Free/Busy Problems
If free/busy information is showing up as free when it should be showing as busy, try these steps:
1. Make sure you aren’t in cache mode:
In 2007:
From your inbox, choose Tools/account settings
From the icon menu, choose “Change…”
If the box labelled “Use Cached Exchange Mode” is checked, uncheck it. Click “Next” then “Finish”
If the box is unchecked, you can click “Next” then “Finish” or “Cancel”
Check this periodically – it changes itself
Quit and Restart Outlook
In earlier versions:
From your inbox, choose Tools/email accounts
Choose “View or Change Existing Accounts” and click “Next”
Highlight “Microsoft Exchange Server” and click “Change”
If the box labelled “Use Cached Exchange Mode” is checked, uncheck it. Click “Next” then “Finish”
If the box is unchecked, you can click “Next” then “Finish” or “Cancel”
Check this periodically – it changes itself
Quit and Restart Outlook
Note: when you work are working offline and keep offline folders, you should reverse this process. Cache mode has an important role in keeping offline folders synced.
2. Clear the free/busy data:
Close Outlook and all other applications on the computer
Click Start, then Run
Type outlook.exe /cleanfreebusy note: there is a space after “exe”
Click OK Outlook will open and just sit there. It’s like fairy dust – you have to believe something is happening. Go ahead and quit Outlook.
Restart the computer
Follow these steps on both the computer that is not seeing the correct free/busy information and the computer that belongs to the person whose free/busy you’re trying to see, if possible.
Note: you’ll need to do these things to your computer as well as the affected executive’s computer
